This week as part of the Art Journal With Kids and {fill your cup} series we are writing, drawing or art journaling about home. In my journal I used a page that I had divided up with Washi Tape (Amazon). and art papers that come with the Artterro Art Journal Kit (Amazon).  My son, on the other hand, told me he needed his to be on a paper not in a journal so he could take it to show his friend the plan (since he was drawing the ultimate treehouse).

Home Art Journal for Kids

What you’ll need:

  • A sketchbook or paper for each participant
  • Markers, pens, colored pencils
  • Glue and decorative paper or magazines if you decide to do the collage prompt.

Kid Art Journal Prompts:

  • Can you draw a plan for the ultimate treehouse?
  • What sights, scents and sounds make you think of home?  Make a collage of items that say “home” to you.
  • When you think of the best parts of home, what do you think of?  In your art journal write (or the grown up can write) a list of words and then decorate the list with doodles, collage paper, or paint.  Can you draw a home on the page?

It made me laugh to look at these together.

Journal Prompts

Read through these prompts and respond to which ever catches your eye.  You can take just 10-30 minutes to respond by writing, drawing or even just pondering as you doodle in your sketchbook.

Weekly Journal Prompts - Home

  • How would you like your home to feel?  Make a list of the words that come to mind.
  • What are the people, things or places that say “Home” to you?
  • Is there anything you could do to  your current space to make it feel more like home?  Can you think of a small change that might bring you a feeling of comfort or belonging?
  • Are you literally or metaphorically being called home right now?  Will you go?
